|
|
hi folks. just bought my first l200 on an X reg with 120k on the clock
ive noticed im loosing coolant from my header tank maybe an inch from the max mark a day
the car doesn't overhead or have any signs of bubbles etc..
looking at some possible causes.. as im worried about head gasket issues!
ive had a few 2.8 pajero's in the past and had the head gasket go but first noticed the coolant in the expansion bottle getting more rather than less!!
any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks |

Is rad full, run it with rad cap off(from cold) to let any air out, topping up.Check rad cap,is it sealed, rubber not perished.
With rad cap on and up to temp, check for any bubbles in exp bottle.
Check for any water marks on block from a possible leaking water pump
Any puddles under tank?
Check the pipe from rad to exp but my 1st thoughts are rad cap.
Take from there |

I often find that t piece on back of head leaks.
also I know this is not what you want to hear.
I find its head gasket and most cases the head cracks.
the old mk1 were bullet proof, I find the later 1s are a bit chocolate.
im sure yours is the 1 with flush valves on that year, I often find that head is the head the head that cracks the most.
can you not borrow a water pressure tester to pump it up to see if just a water leak.
also if leaking but cant see no water I drain oil out and leave plug out then pressure it up to 20 psi, much more than the cap runs at. |

Check the engine around water pump too. Could be the gasket there.
Sometimes, if there is a leak, but you can't spot it, cause it is leaking periodically. You have to look several times to see. |
