Good evening!

Hope everyone is well. Im looking for guidance and parts for my 1987 Pajero.

Having finally gotten the car running I drove it around the block to find that the head is leaking oil quite badly from the gasket. There is also a loud belt squeal under load. The power steering is notchy and I couldn't get the auto box to change into second gear (although it selects D,P, and R easily) Lastly there is now a massive hole in the exhaust manifold.

Not Good.

The next step will be to replace the engine. I have searched around and have a few options;

-1988 complete Pajero mk1 2.5 (but on a manual box) 150000 miles

-2006 L200 4d56 sent on a pallet. 112000 miles and in really good nick.

Both can be had for the same money.

Would the manual Pajero engine fit onto my automatic box without modification?

Could I swap the the full 2.5 engine and manual gearbox to replace my auto box(that might be broken?) without too much hassle?

would the 2006 4d56 mate up to my existing engine mounts? could it be fitted straight to my auto gearbox?
(it would need my old manual fuel pump and a water feed to turbo I believe)

What would you do in my position?

Does anyone have a 4d56 that could drop into my truck?

I don't mind having the auto as I do quite a bit of town driving.

Thanks everyone

Also;

The current engine starts easily and revs freely. But does shake really violently at idle. I assumed this meant that its in quite a bad way. Oil mist in the turbo and air intake also.

There is a place that could skim the head not far from me so that could be a option also.

cheers

B
