After all this time I never knew there was a l200 forum lower down.
Ok.
L200 in 3rd gear, sounds like all teeth are broken or cages around the bearing broken.
its making a hell of a noise.
owner claims just out of the blue it happened.
claims no violent shock etc just went into 3rd gear then made noise.
it selects ok same as other gears.
gearbox feels fine, it just has a huge like noise like gears are not meshing.
Or broken teeth.
in past ive rebuilt alot of daihatsu that has broke the layshaft, 1st gear tooth snaps off, its the complete lay shaft as not a seperate cog.
The sound is more faster than the noise of that.
ive also repaired gearboxes that been ran low on oil.
the needle bearings die, not the same sort of sound.
also if hand on gearstick, you can feel it knocking, the faster you go the faster the knock.
do these break the gears.
its only on third gear I can hear or feel. Truck done 70000miles.
I know on a daihatsu fourtrack if 1st gear bust you hear in 1 2 3 and nothing in 4, not sure about 5th as nursed them back to workshop slowly.
the guy doesnt want to loose his truck for long.
I suggested a used box but he not happy as miles low, more likely hes thinking its gonna cost more that way.
ive not had a l200 box apart only a mk2 shogun.
Can anyone shed any light on this.
anybody had this problem.
thanks in advance.
