|
|
Hi all. I have a 1992 Pajero LWB 2.5td import (Vin/chassis v44 engine 4D56). It failed to start in cold weather recently and after all the usual checks, only one glow plug was found to be working. Soooo - the glow plugs fitted are 6.2V and I’ve duly ordered 6.2V plugs from Milners 4x4. The question I have is, do I need to buy a resistor to fit with these plugs? On Milners website, a note is attached saying “a Milner resistor must be fitted with these plugs”. Is this the case? If so why? Isn’t replacing a 6.2V glowplug with another just a case of one in/one out?
Many thanks, Andrew |

Hello bergan87.
You'd like to think that if you're replacing like for like glow plugs the resistor would have already been fitted by whoever fitted the previous set.
The glow system is fairly simple so it's not hard to check the wiring to see if you do indeed have the required resistor fitted.
I'm not familiar with your engine so I don't know what the original glow plugs would have been ie what voltage but I'm sure a quick check online would tell you.
My question is why would you fit glow plugs that require a resistor which will drop the voltage but at the same time is wasting battery power?
My engine is a 2.8 with 11.2v plugs. When the glow system us active 11.2 volts is about what the battery voltage drops to. |

Hi, as long as you have the orginal fast glow system you should use 6,2v. This can be identified by the double glow relayes on the side of the battery. If you have a singel glow relay, its a "normal" glow system that uses normal 11v plugs.
So the short answer is that yes, you can replace 6,2v plugs with a new set as long as they are the right ones for the engine in the Pajero. |

No need to fit a resistor if your replacing plugs like for like as the vehicle will already have one. |
