This is absolutely tragic, a gentleman and family man taken in the prime of his life,
i only had the pleasure of Rick's company for one day at my place whilst fixing my Pajero,
and he left a lasting impression on me.
my sincere condolences to his wife and family. |

I was very excited when I had the chance to finally meet Sir Rick in person and I was lucky that he decided to come all the way up to Edinburgh. I've heard all the stories about him - that he is 9'10" and eats little children for breakfast, fixes cars just by looking at them and his tools are displayed at the NASA museum.... and there was me, tiny me looking to get the pump fixed. Oh dear. When Rick arrived I wasn't sure whether to offer him a black coffee in a mug or my neighbours kid on a plate. He went with the coffee.
It was so nice to watch him work on the truck. There was no swearing (which of there is plenty in my tool bag) and no sweating. Just a nice straightforward job of undoing bolts and nuts and then putting it back together....at least for Rick it was!
We had a wee chat about Mark (Venn) and his stupid idea of selling his truck and not having a clue how does he manage to tow his caravan in a Scoobie???
Couple hours later and Rick was all packed up and ready to head home - that's couple hours to do the pump seal, starter motor and replace the TPS. True legend!
RIP mate, you deserve a good rest

I met rick a few times when he came to ours to sort the pump on our truck
A top bloke the first time I spoke to him on the phone to arrange a day to come out we ended up on the subject of Haynes manual
For the paj ricks words to me were oh the comic throw it in the bin that's the best place for it
He turned up the following Sunday in the delica got the tailgate up and made start in the rain he was telling me about
When he was once working on someone's truck in heavy rain and the water on the tailgate made it start to move down and all the on the door
Went straight down the back of his coat
Rick was a fantastic guy and very helpful too |

Elaine and me were gutted to read if Rick's passing.
We'll never forget the kindness he and his lovely wife showed us when we were stuck with 4 kids and no wheels. They brought our peach of a Shogun down to us here in the Midlands, an action well above the call. We thought at the time it'd tide us over until we got the insurance for the Delica... Well, years later the ol' gal's still 'tiding us over' - a a four-wheeled tribute to V8's skills! Elaine loves that car and ranks it as one of the best we've had - including a brand new Nissan lol!
Over the years he was always ready with sound, spot-on advice which I followed to the letter and learned a lot in doing so.
We both send Mrs V8 our sympathies and will always be grateful to them both for their kindness.
RIP Rick - You were one of the gooduns and will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing you. |
